"Daddy" U Roy (real name Ewart Beckford) started his career in 1961, spinning records for the Doctor Dickies soundsystem. In 1967 he began to work with King Tubby, and in the late sixties he started toasting over Duke Reid's rocksteady riddims. He has released some fine albums in the seventies, but his outlet in the eighties was sporadic. In the nineties he released three albums on the Ariwa imprint.
