Finally available on 7" single are four cuts over the "Gloria" riddim, a wicked hypnotizing backdrop from the Dasvibes Production camp, which already created some real excitement since preview copies started to get rotation on the radio (and internet). The best effort is the awesome 'Black History' tune "What If" by Nicky B (son of well-known and respected veteran producer Mikey Bennet), which drew notable attention and proved to appeal to reggae fans worldwide. Earlier Nicky B's vocal strengths have been aptly demonstrated on dancehall riddims such as "French Vanilla", "Good To Go" and "Egyptian", and now on the "Gloria" the young singer's distinctive voice comes to full expression once again. Also lyrically this tune is worth of hearing! The same goes for cultural singjay Lutan Fyah, who delivers one of his best efforts. His "What We Need" and, of course, Nicky B's "What If" are the undisputed highlights that have been voiced on this riddim. Elijah Prophet is in fine form and also comes up with an above par cut, which shows that it's about time he gets a full length album release. On the other hand Turbulence doesn't live up to expectations and disappoints with "I Told You". Teacher & Mr. T. |
