  • Rob Symeon - Jah Only
Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
The overall quality of this year's Roots Reggae releases has been outstanding to say the least! A prime example of this is the new single by Rob Symeon "Jah Only"; from the forthcoming album "Indegenious". This is a unity production from Ticklah and Jah Youth Productions, which will guarantee to please.

Rob Symeon may not be a household name but he is truly a veteran and his works have always been of the highest order. This single and the forthcoming album will cement his Rootsman credentials. "The Spark Igniter" started at One Love International Sound System and developed further at New York sound systems Freedom International and Macca Bee. He honed his delivery all his own, but with a range from Barry Brown to Fredlocks and Hugh Mundell. This royal talent got recognition with "Delilah" (with Ranking Joe) on the Easy Star Vol. 1 compilation (1997). The following year, he linked with Hawaii's "The Heartical Crew" (THC) for the blazing "Abso-Root-ly-Hot" set; recorded at Selah Studio (this is a classic album!). He has had magical performances with The Wailing Souls, Don Carlos, Mykal Rose, Tiger, Sister Carol, King Yellowman, Everton Blender and many more. He has been consistent in his material; including the great "The Chosen One" set (Red Bud, 2006) and singles like "Going back To Africa" and "Keep On Trying" (Thai Stick Riddim). He's ready to show the world...

Ticklah (Victor Axelrod) has been an integral part of the internationally recognized "Easy Star All Stars" and has produced many of their acclaimed projects and his own, "Ticklah Vs. Axelrod" (features Rob) and is an accomplished musician in many genres. He operates his own studio (Don't Trip Studio) in Brooklyn, New York. Big things always from Ticklah.

Jah Youth (Jeffrey Boehler) is Hawaii's top rated producer. He has worked with Reggae's elite - Daweh Congo(since 2004), Perfect Giddimani, Natty King, Kaya Lambsbread and many more. This humble Rastaman is working on a full length Daweh Congo album and works heartically. His no-nonsense productions are crisp, clean and permeate Jah atmosphere for all to hear. Expect great works from this devoted producer!

Jah Only is smooth as silk! Recorded at Ticklah's studio; all instrumentation was ably licked by Ticklah as well! This is a true representation of what happens when artist and producer are firmly commited in what they believe in. The lively and urgent riddim is rife with killer keyboard licks, taut drums, intelligent guitar and a hooking bassline. The percussion is swayed in just nice. Rob utilizes this hotbed really nice. He sweetly reminds us to be conscious and remember The Most High. Concious lyrics and structure abound - this is an intoxicating song. What is truly unique is that there are nuances of Fred Locks and memories of UK Roots moments in this gem - pure genius. The production quality is pure ites and echoes experience. The many elements are melted into one sweet goldmine.

"Jah Only" is pure excitement from start to finish. Nothing flashy or dibby dibby; just pure glory to real King's Musik. This is from Rob Symeon's forthcoming album - so be on the lookout for one of the most mystically revealing sets of this year. Seek this one out and you'll see! Highest recommendation. GO DEH!!
