German producer Pionear, founder and mastermind of Germaican Records, achieved international recognition with the mighty "Doctor's Darling". In contrast to this rockin' reggae riddim (a reworking of Gregory Isaacs' "Night Nurse"), Pionear's long awaited next backdrop "Typhoon" comes with a strong yardcore dancehall flavor. After being introduced to the bashment riddim on the compilation set "Shining Stars Vol. 2" we're now treated to a (first?) bunch of 7" singles. Besides the already known cuts from Ward 21, Ill Inspecta, T.O.K., Tanya Stephens and Dr. Ring-Ding (whose "Mafia" has been available as free download) there's also a new piece by Ce'Cile as well as Pionear's Refix Version of "Rude Bwoy Patrol" and the "Typhoon Version". First to hit our decks is the real rough piece "Rude Bwoy Patrol" of madmen Ward 21, who introduce a similar sick mind in Ill Inspecta alongside them. This tune gets a "St. Lucia refix" as a tribute to Pionear's Jamaican mentor King Jammy's, who released Pionear's first riddim "Final Judgement" (the riddim that was also voiced as "Lion" for the combination of Gentleman & Tolga on Gentleman's debut album "Trodin' On") in 1999, and who has his studio premises at St. Lucia Road in the Waterhouse district of Kingston, Jamaica. Next drops "Real Gangsta", a strong tune by T.O.K. following up their outstanding single "Shining Star" over the "Cure" riddim. Tanya Stephens' "It's A Pity" brought the "Doctor's Darling" riddim to an international audience and once again she excels over a Germa(ica)n riddims with her bashment lyrics in "Party Tonight". On the flipside we're treated to "Mafia", a truly fine effort from German reggae veteran Dr. Ring-Ding. Ce'Cile already delivers her 4th Germaican single and again it's well worth to capture her flow over the riddim. The dancehall diva's "9Night" is a wicked piece performed in her typical style. Newcomer Ill Inspecta delivers the outrageous gun tune "Funeral", an over the top solo track over "Typhoon". Order here!! Teacher & Mr. T. |
