Sizzla, Miguel Orlando Collins, was born on April 17, 1976 in St. Mary, Jamaica. His preference was to be a mechanical engineer but with the manisfestation of time his latent musical talent surfaced. He began singing on Caveman International and was spotted by the international acclaimed saxofonist Dean Fraser. They recorded some songs before Dean brought the talented youth to the attention of Xterminator head Philip "Fattis" Burrell. Since then Sizzla has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. On his debut album Sizzla shows he's one of the best new deejays on the scene. The riddims and delivery are pure dancehall but the message is as far from the slackness and gun lyrics of dancehall's early days as that sound was from the reggae of old. Sizzla uses the form to empower the content of songs like "Gun ting don't pay" and "Nah give in". This album is another indication of the return of the conscious lyrics in the dancehall. A very good first outing from an unmistakable highly talented young up-and-coming artist. Check him out !!
