Junior Byles, once frontman of the Versatiles, has made a string of high quality recordings in the seventies for Lee "Scratch" Perry. Most of these vintage tracks are collected by HeartBeat on this perfect compilation album. All tracks were recorded at Randy's Studio 17 and at the legendary Black Ark Studios in the period 1970-1976. The Upsetters laid down the riddims, while "Scratch" and Errol Thompson did the engineering. This album has it all : hits, versions, alternate takes and some unissued tracks. The presentation is, as ever, totally faultless, eye catching and informative, matching and enhancing the quality of the music. For more Junior Byles check out the Trojan "Beat Down Babylon. The Upsetter Years" album. |
