A couple of weeks ago we reviewed Rocker T's 12 inch "Tru Ganjaman". On this EP he displays his diverse talents. He was an integral part of the formation of the downtown New York City ska and dancehall/ragga hip hop scenes as both a solo artist and with his band the Skadanks. On his PSM Recordings debut set he spans styles from roots to dancehall, nyahbingi, hip hop, ska and soul. Throughout the entire album the message of righteousness, ganja smoking and his devotion to Jah is present. Jah Souljah is one of my favorite tracks on the album, across a melodic and catchy riddim. Jah Is Real is a subdued poetical work, whilst the closing track Jah Is Luv is a nyahbingi flavored tune devoted to Jah. One Million Matches is a strong roots'n'culture tune, Jah Everlasting is an hectic praising song and Sensible Proposition is a blazing 'legalize marihuana' anthem across a 'fire burn' riddim, whilst One More is an excellent straight forward reggae tune. A noteworthy debut set ! |
