Son of Kaela Kalswe from Musengazi -Moba & Mitwele Kalilo from Lusaka -Moba / Democratic Republic of Congo , Elijah is a 100% Tabwa (Tribe). He's now living in the Netherlands where he unleashed his debut set "Rastaman is never angry" in 1992 which was recorded at Spitsbergen Studio and backed by The "Rockers Delight" band. After that he kept busy studying soundtechnics and recording other artists in his Survival Recording Studio. Meanwhile he wrote a lot of songs and formed a band called Elijah & His Roots Reggae Team which comprises members from Asia, Africa and Europe. His music is a smooth kind of one-drop reggae and influenced by
African Rhumba & Kinkuli, a riddim from his roots. His second album is called "Lumumba" and is a kind of tribute to Patrick Lumumba who was the first president of Congo and got murdered in the early sixties. Recently information has surfaced that the Belgium government was responsable for his killing. The first tune on the album -Lumumba starts with a speech of Lumumba and is a compelling up-tempo tune about Patrick Lumumba. Jah Will Fulfill is yet another strong tune, followed by the fighting tune Give I The Power in which Elijah asks Jah to give him power to fight down Babylon. The next tune is sung in French -Africa Pleures Pas / Tu Survivras (Africa don't cry, you will survive). More African upbeat reggae you will hear in Lamentation and the same goes for the French song Le Visa and Mawaza. One of the standouts found here is Dreadlock Rasta Inna Groningen on which Elijah is joined by Marcel Zebra who provides the toasting (in Dutch!). Elijah is a talented artist, who has delivered a noteworthy reggae album ! |
