Early January 2011 Maanzaad recorded their first full-length album in the Foyer in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. Four days in a row they recorded 12 tracks for their first full CD. The album was produced by Wim Avonts, a well-known sound engineer and musician in the Flemish music scene.
Maanzaad stands for Dutch roots-reggae, summer feelings and fun! Psychedelic dub with a horny edge to it. Anyway, this is how Maanzaad describes itself. The members of the band played in many other talented reggae bands in the past like Zion Youth, Sunscape, Dubtown-Band, Grasjas, Spijkerhart, Spacca en The Nico Van Gendt Project. Every member is an energetic musician with a heart for reggae and a passion for music. The band is completed with 3 beautiful ladies who provide the backing vocals. Twelve songs on the album. Agent Van De Politie is a nice ska tune about problems with the police. More ska on Alles Naar De Maan, a cover of the classic 'Monkey Man' tune by Toots & The Maytals. Gejankt is a slow dubbed up tune, not my cup of tea. Lentedag In Oktober is a typical love song, check out the (Dutch) lyrics! Habibi is another love song with a nice organ lick. The future will tell if Maanzaad is on its way to become a well-known name in the Flemish music scene. |
