About a year after he entered the international modern roots arena with his strong full length debut album, "A Different Age", NiyoRah returns with a brand new album full of righteousness and conscious messages. It's always interesting to see what an artist delivers on his sophomore album, especially if he has shown real potential on a debut album as in case of NiyoRah. After having listened to "Purification Session" one can only conclude that this collection of tunes surpasses all that has come before. NiyoRah impresses with inspired, insightful and intense lyrics that deal with a huge range of issues like for example social justice, racial pride and spirituality. Vocally he has a natural flow and seemingly effortless he manages to switch from singing to chanting in his own unique way. The riddims that underpin his songs are well arranged fresh originals, primarily 'one drop' grooves but occasionally the listener is also treated to some real nice hip-hop, funk and soul flavors. None of the 18 tracks included on this album disappoints. Each track has its own merits and is truly worth of hearing. The ones that we like most are the wonderful opening track, "Nothing To Prove", in which NiyoRah expresses his love of his heritage, the moving "There For You", the bass-driven singjay piece with Pressure entitled "African Chant", the incisive "Kick Up", and the beautiful "Sell Out". Furthermore there's the fiery "Lion Have Man", which features Midnite's Vaughn Benjamin, "Globe All Warning", "We Shall See" and "Always" that get a deserved push on the 'repeat button'. "Purification Session" is a powerful modern roots album, that was jointly produced by three production units -- I Grade, Lustre Kings and Zion High.
