Since quite a long time we haven't heard any new production work of veteran producer Roy Francis, owner of the Mixing Lab studio, who we fondly remember from classic releases on his Phase One label. Some of his finest production works got reissued on the Blood & Fire compilation "Children Of Jah" and Motion Records' "We Are Getting Bad ~ The Sound Of Phase One". Now he returns as a (co-)producer -- Purplehazz being the other producer -- with a digitally released 8-track 'one riddim' album called "Bobo Ting". Recorded at Mixing Lab, Kingston JA, and expertly mixed by Lynford "Fatta" Marshall -- except for U Roy's "Ghetto Youths" which was greatly mixed by Colin "Bulby" York, the live played "Bobo Ting" riddim bears the high quality we have come to know from Roy Francis productions. It's a superb, full sounding roots riddim with stellar performances from some of the biggest roots artists such as Anthony B, Luciano, Lutan Fyah and Capleton, while also lesser known artist like Ineka and Qu'Shan deliver above par efforts. And, of course, let's not forget veteran deejay U Roy, whose "Ghetto Youths" is just awesome, also thanks to "Bulby" York's outrageous dubby mixing style. The album is rounded off in great style with the version of the "Bobo Ting" riddim, which should be played real loud. The "Bobo Ting" riddim is one of the most appealing and best roots riddims coming out of Jamaica in 2011.
