Germaican Records' "Doctor's Darling"-riddim has been championed quite a few times since its initial release in June 2002. The first batch of 7"s was reviewed here and the "international leg" a year later here. The cut that made the alarm ring loudest internationally, Tanya Stephens "It's A Pity" kicks off this VP Records Riddim Driven album and every single track over this 2002 live played by Germany's top reggae outfit Seeed relick of Gregory Isaacs' "Night Nurse"-riddim is a killer. Of course the Seeed combination with Anthony B relicking his "Waanback" here called "Waterpumpee" and the riddim's "Version" were available on the Mini-CD "Waterpumpee" and the Tanya Stephens and Seeed & Anthony B tunes were alongside Münsteraner German Dancehall Don Dr.Ring-Ding's "Doctor's Darling" featured on the successful "Shining Stars"-compilation. On this album these tunes are joined by wonderful deliveries by Degree, doing his answer version to "It's A Pity" called "It No Matter", Michael Rose's very strong "Jah Love Hot", Junior Kelly's "Korruption", the sweet voices of Luciano, doing the conscious "Stay Away" without hiding his Dennis Brown influences, George Nooks in the same league with "Can't Stop Us Now", Glen Washington's superb "Win Or Lose" and Lukie D's "Sincerely I Swear" and the beautiful female vocals of Sweet Cess in "The Truth". More consciousness and fierce deliveries by Capleton, Turbulence, Spectacular and Sizzla strong "Pure Love" just prove that this album contains 16 boom tunes. This is one of my favourite riddims, getting out the best in all the artists voicing it, and the only complaint one can have is the omission of Crystal Axe's "Got To Be Brave" and the strong consiousness in German of Nosliw's "Nur Dabei". But this is although a nearly 2 year old riddim, the best one riddim album release so far this year. Souljah. |
