HeavyBeat Records is the label of legendary multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Willie Lindo, who in the mid-1970s teamed with Beres Hammond. Together they produced a large body of high-quality work including Beres Hammond's 1977 album "Soul Reggae". Throughout the end of the 1970s and in the 1980s, Willie Lindo went on to work with a series of talented reggae artists such as Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, Culture, The Heptones, Ijahman, Delroy Washington, and several others. In the 1990s and the new millenium he continued his production works and released artist albums as well as compilation sets on his own imprint.

"HeavyBeat Hits Vol. 1" is the latest, digitally released, compilation of Willie Lindo produced tunes. Things get started with "Love Is Overdue", a cover version of the Gregory Isaacs tune nicely done by his son, the sweet-voiced Kashief Lindo. Talented daughter Nikesha Lindo is also present here with the "Dub Mix" version of her decent lovers piece entitled "Talk Of The Town", while long-time friend Beres Hammond is "Keeping It Real" in his well-known style. This track is actually a remixed version of the previously released original tune. And more reggae veterans are featured here. Freddie McGregor's solid "Gatepass To Your Heart" is underpinned by a riddim that was used for Wayne Wade's 1992 hit "I Love You Too Much". Owen George Anthony Silvera aka Ambelique isn't that much around anymore, but when he drops a tune it's always a good one as can be heard when listening to "Run Away From You". Glen Washington delivers the real nice "I Found Me A Love", while Michael Rose comes up with a solid conscious roots tune called "Got To Survive". The Melodians shine on "Passion Love", a track taken from their recently released cd "Lyrics To Riddim". The single "Hold The Powaz" is Willie Lindo's very first production work with Pressure Busspipe, one of the best efforts the singjay has recorded in recent times.

All in all this collection of tunes is worth hearing.
