After the very successful cooperation on the 'Black Out'-riddim that ruled the dancehalls, and in fact still rules, especially when Vybz Kartel's "Picture This" is played, Daniel 'Blaxxx' Lewis who gaves us the very successful 'Egyptian'-riddim, & Andrew 'Buccaneer' Bradford have their respective labels Blaxxx Records and Opera House once again merged as Black House Records for 'Middle East' the 62nd installment in Greensleeves' extremely popular "Rhythm Album"-series. And if you like me thought that 'Black Out' was a catcy bashment riddim with an almost jazzy bassline, wait till you hear the walking jazz bassline in combination with the latin-tinged hornsriff, samba percussion and the mediterranean strings. Vybz Kartel explains that "Real Man" need more than one gal, like in the 'Middle East' hence the rebranding of this riddim from 'Latin' to its current name. Elephant Man is in fine form finally again on "It In Deh" as the riddim seems to bring out the best in every artist voicing it. Bounty Killer is on "Target" in his tune, and Sizzla is holding himself back, and thus finally showing he can deliver in a convincing way over a current dancehall riddim on the slack "Long Donkey Cod". Vybz Kartel is (of course after his success over the 'Black Out') featured with a second tune, asking his baby to get freaky for me in the entertaining "Dandy Shandy". All others featured on this riddim, whether (relative) newcomers like Movado, Busy Signal, Sanjay, Razor, Leaf A Life (what's in a name) and riddim builder extraordinaire Craig 'Left Side' Parkes alongside Esco who deliver a feel-good lovers tune with "Sunshine" instead of another Passa Passa story, veterans like producer Buccaneer himself without opera-attempts, Mr. G a.k.a. Goofy welcoming all to his pimpers paradise, Red Rat and Mr. Vegas, or the ones in that crucial stage between these two extremes like Jagwa, Looga Man, Kiprich and Predator, they all have above par tunes, and that is probably due as much to this superb infectious riddim as can be heard in the clean version of the "Middle East Riddim", as it is to their own fine performances. Black House Records strikes again.
