Greensleeves Records have released their newest annual volume in the
Ragga Ragga Ragga! series compiling a 16th consecutive year of Ragga Ragga Ragga!, the one series
that this is probably of all the samplers in the reggae and dancehall world being most in touch with
the actual runnings in the dancehalls in JA. Opening it is Mavado with his Vybz Kartel's diss "War Is In The Air"
across DJ Frass' 'Israel'-riddim, followed by his opponent Vybz Kartel explaining he is "Neva Scared" across
the by Head Concussion's Tarik 'Russian' Johnston 'Nuh
Fear'-riddim and a great string of intro and 2 tunes by deejaying comedians (or is it comic DJs)
Paul and Patrick Gaynor a.k.a. Twin of Twins - with the help of Daseca's Harrisingh brothers recorded - "Dem A try Bait Me Up"
and "Which Dudus" for Boardhouse Records (co-owned by Assassin). Truckback Records hit it big time with Erup's "Click Mi Finger" on their 'Gearbox'-riddim and have put their trust in the 'Dancehall Rock'-riddim which actually fits that name and again Erup with the impressive (though not because of the riddim my cup of tea) "How We Ride" and Gappy Ranks hits the right theme in the right style for Gramigna Sounds' Macro Marco followed by the überhits from the Head Concussion camp "My Money (Ha Ha)" by dance crew the Merital Family alongside the man scoring big himself with "Go Go Club" the tune following it by Vybz Kartel giving the riddim for both tunes its name. Veteran Bounty Killer impresses with his "Social Responsibility" across Boardhouse' 'Clean Sweep'-riddim and then Mavado across Armz House' 'Double Action'-riddim and Gyptian with the semi-slack lyrically very well found "Hold You" for Imran 'Fire Peter' Passard's Humbleness Records contribute more excellent tunes to this already extremely high-level album. Vybz Kartel's "Love Dem" for Bolton F.C. and Jamaica footballer Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner's Heart Of Love label across their 'Set Me Free'-riddim, Mavado's brilliant "She Beat Him" on the 'World Premiere'-riddim for Chimney Records and Gappy Ranks very entertaining "controversy Sells" for Riff Raff are followed by the superb (rare vocal appearance by) Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor tune "Cyaa Friend Again" dissing long time friend (who started it himself) Vybz Kartel and this extremely strong volume in one of the best dancehall compilation series ever closes with I Octane delivering his very (VERY) impressive "Lose A Friend" for Truckback Records. Truly a set only the hardcore dancehall DJ doesn't need to buy because he already owns every single tune, but for every other dancehall enthusiast a must-buy! |
