Mojo Morgan – Be Free
Born in Brooklyn’s tough Bushwick neighborhood, Mojo Morgan was raised in Springfield, MA and spent his summer vacations back in New York’s hippest outer borough, where he returned after high school. Although he grew up in Massachusetts, the family was able to maintain a home in Jamaica and made sure the strong Jamaican culture was present in the home while raising the children in America. As a member of GRAMMY Award Winning and 2-time GRAMMY Nominated iconic Reggae group Morgan Heritage, they started recording for the first time professionally in the late 1980s.
Surrounded by sessions of intensive vocal and instrumental training, Mojo Morgan was exposed to everything from the godfathers of Roots Reggae to top 40 American Radio: everything from Sade and Bryan Adams to The Cranberries and Hootie and The Blowfish. Those musical influences have formed a new direction for Mojo Morgan’s solo project and a new sound called “Rasta Rock”.
On his EP “Got Mojo?” his music found its way onto Nike’s promotional radar and even received the go ahead from Sting to cover the Police’s “Roxanne”. As well as gaining major media covers on outlets such as ABC News NOW’s “What’s The Buzz”. By receiving such great reviews, Mojo’s 2009 solo EP has set the stage for his full length solo debut album in 2019.
The first single and international anthem “Be Free” features multi GRAMMY Award winners Stephen Marley and Gramps Morgan. With an upbeat groove to move your dancing feet, the message is one of empowerment to tomorrow’s leaders in this technological age. Encouraging them to not be afraid of doing things different from the way their parents may want them to do things in life.
