Vin Gordon – Way Over Yonder | LP Reissue
The legendary, lauded and instantly recognisable trombonist Vin Gordon aka Don Drummond Jr. is one of Jamaica’s greatest trombonists. He, together with Don Drummond, Tommy McCook and many other great Jamaican musicians, was a student at the Alpha School of Music. When Don Drummond died in 1969, Studio One engaged Vin Gordon as their session trombonist. Vin Gordon also played with the late, great Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, the band known as The Skatalites, Bobby Ellis, Lloyd Parks and Sly Dunbar.
Now UK label Studio 16 has reissued his Errol Thompson produced debut LP “Way Over Yonder”, which was originally released in 1980 on the Joe Gibbs label. The LP features eight tracks of tuff rockers riddims including interpretations of Don Drummond’s “Green Island” (“Green Callie’), “Confucious”, “You’re So Delightful” and “Love Kiss Blue”, as well as two medleys, one featuring updates of “Swing Easy” and his own classic “Real Rock.
