At the beginning of the year 2000, a new style of one riddim albums was introduced to the dancehall massive and record buying public by two of the main record companies in the reggae business, Greensleeves and VP Records. Greensleeves kicked off the riddim release craze with Greensleeves Rhythm Album #1 – Bellyass. The following year, VP Records joined in with the lauch of the first installment of their Riddim Driven series, Chiney Gal & Blazing, which featured cuts on two different riddims. Both series intended to collect various artists 7″ singles on a CD or Vinyl LP. Since the release of Chiney Gal & Blazing, VP Records has released over 140 riddim albums with the last being Riddim Driven – Classic in 2010. The same year, the Greensleeves Rhythm Album series also came to an end with Set Mi Free, the series’ ninetieth riddim set.

Nearly fifteen years after the frenzy of riddim releases came to a close, dancehall enthusiasts who have fond memories of the era where riddim series dominated the dancehall scene, were elated when producer Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston released the Dutty Money Riddim in December 2023. Following this triumph of the extremely popular dancehall beat, Rvssian has now released a new banger called Payment Plan Riddim. Nigy Boy’s track Judgement from the Payment Plan Riddim has already made its mark on Richie B’s Jamaica Music Countdown Dancehall Chart, and more hits from the riddim are expected to follow. This is Nigy Boy’s second collaboration with Rvssian, following his previous success with Continent on the Dutty Money Riddim..
