Various – High School Riddim
It’s a shame we couldn’t find any info about the Attack Released label because the tunes of their release “High School Riddim” have been on heavy rotation here at Reggae Vibes! The 4 track EP was released a couple weeks ago and features a modern reworking of Studio One’s “College Rock” riddim. This riddim has been versioned to the max and some of the best known versions are Sanchez with “One In A Million” (Penthouse), Jackie Mittoo’s “Freak Out”, Prince Jazzbo’s “School” (Studio One) and Cornell Campbell with “I’ll mash You Down”(Ossie & Koos Records).
The relicked riddim is voiced by three vocalists and the instrumental cut is included for good measure. Reggae veteran Joseph Cotton a.k.a. Jah Walton opens with “High School Days” , which happens to be a first class rub-a-dub rendition of the aforementioned Prince Jazzbo tune, lyrically speaking. Next comes French Embassy (what’s in a name?) with “Tek Weh Yuh Gyal”. His high pitched vocal delivery suits the riddim just right. The third (unknown) vocalist Propa brings us a sweet lovers lick of the riddim. The instrumental version closes this juggling EP.
