Rafeelya
Songstress/songwriter Raphaelia aka Rafeelya, originating from Boston MA, but now a resident of the UK, has been active in music business since the latter half of the 1990s. In recent years she did backing vocals on stage for several artist including singer Alpheus on stage and recorded a few notable tunes herself.
The year 2017 was a very good year for Rafeelya. She released her first mixtape “My Sound My Way”, which embodied her love for Roots and Dub, Lovers Rock, Rocksteady as well as her desire for creating music herself. However the most memorable moment was winning a UK competition called “Britain’s Got Reggae”. One of her winning prizes was recording an EP with Stingray Records, known for dropping classics and maintaining a legendary sound, which has been finally released.
Life & Times EP
The “Life & Times EP”, produced and arranged by C & R Mcleod, introduces those who have never heard of Rafeelya, to the soft, but commanding voice of this fine singer. Solid production accompanies Rafeelya’s lovely vocal delivery and powerful lyrics. It enables her to shine bright on the EP’s lovers as well as roots offerings. The lovely opener “Always Be My Baby” is Lovers Rock to the highest degree and will certainly appeal to fans of the genre. Then it’s time to turn up the volume for three real winners with first the gorgeous “Coming Of The Father” across Saxon’s mighty 1995 relick of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Rainbow Country” riddim. It’s followed by the matching “Where Is The Love”, a call for unity in order to make the future brighter. Next comes the roots killer “Finish It”, really and truly an awesome tune that simply urges the listener to give it the repeat treatment. And then it’s time to sit back, relax and take another sip of your wine, ’cause Rafeelya drops some real nice lovers vibes with “Nothing Happens Before The Time” and a well done soulful rendition of Louisa Marks’ classic tune “Caught You In A Lie”.
