Since their foundation in 2003, the Austrian production house and record label IrieVibrations Records has firmly established its name among reggae fans worldwide with very well received albums from the likes of Luciano, Anthony B, Perfect Giddimani, Konshens & Delus, Junior Kelly, Raphael and others. Besides that they’re also known for putting out quality riddim sets and even a dub project by main producer Syrix attracted notable attention. Now IrieVibrations Records presents to the world an exceptional talent from Jamaica, who goes by the name of Javada.
Born Nevada Myrie, Javada grew up in East Kingston, Jamaica. In 2011, Javada took his first step in professional music under the stage moniker Loucrative and released the singles “Gal You Hot” and “Cry Shame”. Within the next year he was introduced to dancehall artist Konshens, who in 2013 signed him to his label Subkonshus Music Group. It was during this time that he changed his stage name from Loucrative to Javada. In 2014, the young artist first attracted attention with his mixtape, entitled “Rude And Smooth”. The title is indicative of the raunchy and romantic mix of songs the project contains. Feature songs with artists like Nicky B or Chevaughn enjoyed extensive airplay on a number of Jamaica’s top radio stations, while the song entitled “Gyal Dem Ready” even laid the foundation for a collaboration with Enrique Iglesias, who requested and featured Javada on the 2016 Billboard charting ‘Spanglish’ remix of his song “Duele El Corazon”. In 2015 Javada decided to continue his solo career independently and left Subkonshus Music Group.
Javada’s inspiration for the aptly titled “Feel Brand New EP” came from him being in a depressed state which entails him becoming an independent artist, failing relationship and struggles he faced. As the artist himself explained: “The music was my escape from all of that and it’s what took me to a happier place. All the songs are about wanting happiness, love, my recovery and just positivity.”
Feel Brand New EP
The “Feel Brand New EP” really displays a great deal of versatility with Javada showing his ability to handle any given riddim with ease. It makes this well varied collection a fine showcase for Javada. The previously released single and music video “Feel Brand New”, a collaboration with former TOK member Bay-C, is a cheerful sounding Ska-fueled dance song. It’s a very nice opener with lyrics also worth checking. A modern Reggae riddim, with appealing sax parts that give the music extra warmth, underpins the fully entertaining lovers piece “Searching”, before the Dancehall vibed “Always On My Mind” takes over. A solid tune that benefits from its well crafted riddim. Back to the modern reggae sound with the great lovers lament “Shuda Neva”, a song of a very serious nature. After the “Skit” the huge “One & One” and the painfully infectious “Love The Irie Vibes” reveal that Javada can utilize a vocal style that is strongly reminiscent of Assassin aka Agent Sasco, something that vaguely came to mind while listening to the first four tracks. Then Javada excels on two club bangers, which are fueled with extra strong Dancehall vibes. “Full Package”, a tune with explicit lyrics, is delivered across a gorgeous backdrop. Infectious and intoxicating are the words that apply to the hard hitting “Over & Over”, which is driven by a riddim that kills it all.
Conclusion Javada's "Feel Brand New EP" is a very fresh and compelling collection, worth playing over and over again.
