Boom Boom Fighters & Cookah P – Confit

Boom Boom Fighters is a young band from Girona and Mataró which are both located in the Spanish region of Catalonia. After the release of their well-received 2021 EP entitled Family Things, the talented musical group returns with a brand new project. This time it’s an 11-track full-length album called Confit for which they’ve teamed up with Catalan singjay l’Oriol Pujades who’s better known by his stage name Cookah P. The latter is an experienced artist as he has a long career in the world of sound systems where he honed his skills on the mic. He’s present on each and every track featured on this album and shows that he’s able to ride seemingly effortlessly any kind of riddim that is laid by the Boom Boom Fighters.

Whether it’s ska, rocksteady, reggae, or dancehall, Cookah P easily finds his flow when he delivers his lyrics in Catalan tongue. Here you’ll find only one track – Gun Clown – which is completely sung in English. However, no need to let the language aspect turn you off because the backdrops of the Boom Boom Fighters alone are simply a joy to hear. The masterly played riddims sound really fresh and most of the time are also very infectious. They are obviously designed for dancing and thus create party vibes all the way. Some of them are relicked versions of Jamaican riddims like for example Beres Hammond’s I Feel Good and The Wailers’ Simmer Down, while the rest of the riddims are originals that have nuff appeal. No disappointing moments are to be found on this album! And although each track deserves multiple listenings, it is especially the aforementioned Gun Clown as well as Vinc de l’Empordà, the title track Confit, Plou, and El Gos Afamat that go on repeat.

In all, it’s well worth checking Boom Boom Fighters & Cookie P’s debut album.
