Chronicle, the Jamaican dancehall veteran and father of Chronixx, started his music career in the early 1990s by releasing singles for labels such as Steely & Clevie, Massive B, and Firehouse Crew. Despite recording a considerable amount of quality singles, he never achieved a significant international breakthrough. Some speculate that this may be due to him being perceived as a clone of Barrington Levy. In spite of this, his efforts are still worthwhile checking out. Nevertheless, most of his efforts, including this one, deserve to be heard.

The opener and title track, Suzy, sets the tone for the rest of this EP. Built by Cisko, it features digital riddims that evoke memories of the late ’80s/early ’90s. Suzy is undeniably the standout on this EP, offering a powerful and captivating listening experience. However, let’s not overlook the matching Murder A Soundboy, which also deserves a listen. This ‘Soundboy’ tune was featured on a 7″ vinyl single that came out in 2011 and then reappeared in 2020 on the digitally released Chase Vampire EP. Next comes the collab song Real Woman, partly delivered with French lyrics by Azrock, which does not hit the mark as much as the previous two tracks. The latter half of the EP showcases instrumental and dub versions, with Suzy Version being the most enjoyable track.

Another welcome release from Patate Records.
