While still in his early teens, Dennis Brown recorded the self-written song Created By The Father for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. After that, the singer who became widely known as the “Crownprince of Reggae”, re-recorded the song several times. Also other Jamaican vocalists tried their hand on the song including Errol Dunkley in 1972, Gregory Isaacs in 1978, Junior Delgado in 1987, Leroy Gibbons in 2002, and Winston Reedy in 2022.

In 2007, a 7″ single featuring Rod Taylor’s rendition of Created By The Father was issued on the Belleville International label. Fifteen years later, a remixed version of that tune on Serial P’s Bye Bye Bye riddim appeared on the veteran singer’s album Mister Bossman, actually surpassing the previously released single. And now, that album version, its single version, and the straight riddim track has been released by Patate Records. The two Rod Taylor versions of Created By The Father are exceptional and pleasing to the ear. It’s a good choice to also offer the outstanding riddim track, which even without vocals is worth hearing.

Investing in this digital release is worthwhile, as Rod Taylor’s voice remains excellent and the riddim exudes a certain level of class.
