Starting his career as an engineer in the late 1980s, Dave Kelly, a highly respected record producer from Jamaica, made a name for himself in the music industry. He initially ventured into producing at Penthouse Studio owned by Donovan Germain. However, his passion and talent led him to establish his own label named Madhouse Records in collaboration with business partner Janet Davidson in 1991. Dave Kelly’s distinctive production style, which deviated from the structured dancehall style prevailing in the early digital era, brought about a revolution in the industry. This innovative approach propelled him to immense success as he recorded numerous songs that claimed the top spots in both local and international reggae charts. Renowned for his contributions to the dancehall genre, Dave Kelly became a driving force behind iconic riddims like “Joy Ride,” “Showtime,” “Fiesta,” and “Eighty-Five.” His profound impact on the music scene cemented his status as one of the most accomplished and influential dancehall reggae producers in Jamaica.
Dave Kelly introduces a fresh take on dancehall’s rub-a-dub style with his latest dancehall riddim, appropriately named “Slow Motion.” The standout track features renowned artists Bounty Killer, Baby Cham, and Dexta Daps, of whom the former two artists have previously collaborated successfully with the producer. This trio impressively delivers their lyrics over a slamming dancehall beat, reminiscent of classic Madhouse style. The lead track is an electrifying addition to any dancefloor, exuding a globally recognized quality. Busy Signal follows suit with the irresistible tune Gimme That that effortlessly matches the caliber of the preceding track. Similarly, T.O.K., Jamaica’s prominent dancehall group from the late 1990s to 2015, maintains the same level of excellence with their contribution Sexy Time. The EP gracefully concludes with Blakkman’s captivating track, The Pre. Having joined The Alliance, Bounty Killer’s esteemed music empire, as a songwriter in 2011, Blakkman triumphantly recorded his debut hit single, Nine Night, on the Wasp Nest Riddim in 2015.
In addition to the official music video for Slow Motion by Baby Cham, Bounty Killer, and Dexta Daps, Madhouse Records have also released Slow Motion – The Movie, an incredibly captivating experience that should not be missed.
