Various - Pocket Book Riddim

From the Queen of Dancehall Soul, Cherine Anderson, to the former lead singer of The Chosen Few with the velvet voice, the late singer extraordinaire Noel “Bunny” Brown, the “Pocket Book Riddim” – produced by Sly & Robbie and Rorey Baker – takes the listener on a romantic stroll through Lovers lane. The legendary riddim twins and the Taxi Gang have created a wonderful sounding brand new Lovers Rock riddim, for which they have linked artists – upcomers as well as veterans – who are more than capable of handling it.

Here the listener is treated to sweet love songs, which can be enjoyed to the fullest as they’re all stamped with class all over. Even the lesser known artists make a very good impression and manage to hold their own among the bigger names. Cherine Anderson, one of the countless artists who Sly & Robbie have helped develop along their way, uses her powerhouse of a voice to full effect on the compelling opener “Place To Lay Your Head”. The great singing along with its lyrical content makes her tune one of the album’s standout efforts. Next comes Nature, who vocally shines bright on “Last Time”, while the enjoyable combination tune “Colours Of Love” by Anthony Red Rose & Meera keeps the lovers vibes high throughout. All in all, a downright gorgeous beginning of this collection!

Also the other tracks on this album are worth hearing more than once. None of the eight remaining efforts disappoints, which obviously is a great thing when listening to a riddim set. All these tunes (and, of course, the first three ones too) make that you’ll immediately want to grab that special someone and do a little dance because it’s so nice. Best of the rest include the combinations “In Your Eyes” by Hopeton Lindo & Fiona and “Incomplete” by Sandra Cross & Ambelique plus Sabrina Diva’s “Show You Love”.

Well done modern Lovers Rock music!
