Ras Teo - Coax Me

After having served roots reggae fans very well with the excellent “Ten Thousand Lions” double album, the 12″ platters “Mansa Musa”, “Bad Friday”, “In My Vision” and “Father House” and the music videos “Country Living” and “Down In The Garrison”, all done in collaboration with Roberto Sánchez, Ras Teo aka Jah Menelik and his partner in crime are back on track with a brand new 7″ single featuring the solid and vibrating “Coax Me” plus its dub version.

Although the reggae world knows Ras Teo (Teo Hartoonian) as a respected singer and producer of quality Roots Reggae music, “Coax Me” represents his first approach to dub poetry. Backed by a downright intoxicating rockers style riddim that sounds very familiar to the ears as Roberto Sánchez has utilized this backdrop already before (unfortunately can’t recall the title of that tune), Ras Teo treats the listener to an interesting deep roots song, showing that – although he doesn’t come near the class of dub poets like Oku Onuora, Mutabaruka and the late Michael Smith- he’s certainly able to deliver some good dub poetry.

The flipside of the 7″ platter features Lone Ark Riddim Force’s backdrop. Dubbed up by Roberto Sánchez at the A-Lone Ark Muzik Studio, the strength of this well-built riddim can be experienced to the fullest. Although it’s not a hardcore dubversion, “Coax Me Dub” strikes and is strong as hell!

Another worthy effort coming from the collaboration between Ras Teo & Roberto Sánchez.
