TUNE OF THE WEEK #21

KING KONG – RUMBLE JUNGLE LIFE – MASSIVE B

In 1997, the magnificent Cuss Cuss riddim played by the Roots Radics Band was utilized on five 7″ singles produced by Bobby Konders. One of them featured King Kong’s big dancehall tune Rumble Jungle Life. Here, King Kong’s singing style of prolonging the last syllable of his words into echoing lengths fits lovely into the relicked version of the riddim. The latter was originally recorded at Studio One and voiced by Lloyd Robinson in the late ’60s. Rumble Jungle Life later became the title track of the Jamaican deejay/singer’s studio album from 2011.
