Disco 45 - Jamaican 12inch Selection Vol. 1
Here’s a handpicked mix of 18 Jamaican 12inches. In the mid 1970s The Hoo Kim brothers at Channel One became the first Jamaican producers to venture into the new 12″ format with The Jays’ version of Marcia Griffiths’ Studio One classic Truly being the first 12″ single to be manufactured and released in Kingston. From then thousands of reggae singles were pressed in this format and commercially issued as disco mixes, disco 45 or whatever they were called. Usually the vocal part was followed by a musical (dub) version, or a deejay was called in to toast over the riddim.
This selection features mostly lesser known artists, and some fairly rare releases. Of course there are also some big names included. Listen to artists such as Trevor Junior, John Holt, Jah Patrick, Errol Gentles, Cornell Andrews, Barry Brown, Equation, Bim Sherman & more. Vinyl Only!
